During the Los Angeles Lakers’ 110-103 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Tuesday night, much was made of the historic moment when LeBron and Bronny James shared the court, the first time in its 78-year history that a father and son The NBA achieved this feat.

Hidden in that feel-good moment was a completely dominant performance from Anthony Davis, who led the Lake Show past the Western Conference runners-up a year ago.

Davis scored 36 points, collected 16 rebounds and added four assists in 38 minutes.

LeBron gushed about his teammate to reporters after the game.

“He is the focus for us offensively and defensively. And we need to make sure we continue to include him. The coaching staff and JJ (Redick, head coach) do a great job of always putting him in the positions he’s in. “He’s a receiver on offense. And when AD makes it, it’s our job as ballhandlers to keep feeding and finding them. And AD did what AD does.

Redick also praised his talented big man.

“AD was phenomenal tonight. He really attacked the game. He was patient.”

The Lakers will need more from Davis if they hope to win a record-tying 18th NBA title this season.

The Western Conference is full of talented teams, most of which can run and make it to the NBA Finals. We saw it a season ago with the Timberwolves and even the year before that when the Lakers emerged from the seventh seed and challenged Denver for the West crown.

The Lakers’ roster consists of Davis and James. When they are not at their best, it is incredibly difficult for this team to win consistently. With James in his 22nd season and not getting any younger, the big man will continue to be the organization’s core on the court.

He’s off to a great start, setting the tone for the rest of the season and establishing himself as the face of the franchise for the next nine months.

As he goes, the team goes, and if the opener was any indication, the team should be contending for the Larry O’Brien Trophy come spring.
