Annual fruit and nut sale begins

A fall tradition returns with the Salvation Army’s annual fruit and nut sale, a fundraiser run by the organization’s volunteer women’s auxiliary group.
Sales began Monday, and orders will be accepted through October 4. Delivery will be made in time for the holidays, according to a press release.
The Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary (SAWA) of Kosciusko County has a long history of supporting local programs and services that benefit families and individuals in need. The sale began in the 1970s in partnership with Terri Lynn Fundraiser and has become a beloved annual tradition for local residents. SAWA members Kim Hart and Ann Pinnick are co-chairing the fundraiser this year.
Supporting the fruit and nut sale just got easier this year. Items can be purchased online at sawarsawnuts.org or by picking up forms at the Salvation Army, 501 E. Arthur St., Warsaw. SAWA members also have paper forms they can provide upon request. Shipping is free for all orders over $30, so local residents are asked to share the link with family and friends to increase support.
Proceeds from the sale benefit services such as providing shoes for school children and essential work clothes for adults. Sales also support the Pathway of Hope program, which seeks to break the cycle of poverty for local families, as well as Salvation Army programs that support youth and veterans.
Last year, The Salvation Army distributed nearly 58,000 meals and grocery orders to needy households in Kosciusko and helped make Christmas brighter by distributing over 4,100 toys and clothing items to local children. Fundraisers like the Fruit & Nut Sale and the upcoming Red Kettle campaign make these and other important service projects possible.
“We are grateful to everyone who purchases fruit and nuts to help others,” said Minister Sina Locke, Salvation Army Corps Administrator. “We have seen an increase in requests, so the proceeds from fruit and nut sales will help us meet that need.”
