Andrew Garfield says Jessica Chastain delayed filming “Tammy Faye” so he could see his mother before she died

Andrew Garfield is grateful to have made the film in 2021 The eyes of Tammy Faye with Jessica Chastain – especially because Chastain supported him until his mother Lynn’s death in 2019.

In a new interview, Garfield reveals that Chastain helped see Lynn during the biopic’s filming days before she died of pancreatic cancer at the age of 69.

“The amazing thing was that (David Greenbaum of Searchlight Pictures) and Jessica changed the schedule at the last minute and put filming (in North Carolina) on hold for a few days so I could go back (to England) and be with my mother for 10 days,” says Andrew People.

Garfield says he and Chastain “had deep conversations” while getting to know each other during the making of the film, for which Chastain won the best actress Oscar for her role as televangelist Tammy Faye Messner and Garfield played her husband Jim Bakker.

“I’m really grateful for the time I had with her,” Garfield adds, “because it was the time when my mother was really sick and eventually passed away.”

The actor also tells People The Tammy Faye Co-star Vincent D’Onofrio also encouraged him to take time for himself.

“Because he had his own experience of a loss that he could not make up for, he said, ‘Go!’ “You have to go,” Garfield remembers saying. “And I thought, ‘Well, I know, I have to go and thank you.'”

Garfield recently opened up about the loss of his mother on an episode of Sesame Street as well as.

“I’m just thinking about my mother today,” he told Elmo on the children’s show (see above). “She died not long ago and, you know, I just miss her, miss her a lot.”

“It’s actually totally okay to miss someone,” he added. “You know, this sadness is a kind of gift. In a way, it’s a nice feeling because missing someone means you really love them. … When I miss my mother, I remember all the cuddles I got from her, all the hugs I got from her. … And it makes me feel close to her in a strange way when I miss her.”
