Allegiant Stadium Guide: What you should know about the home stadium of the Las Vegas Raiders

Raiders owner Mark Davis (and his late father) always dreamed of having a stadium like this, and the franchise had to move to Las Vegas to get it. While Allegiant Stadium doesn’t have all the bells and whistles and spaceship feel of SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, it’s a state-of-the-art football stadium with great views from every seat and real grass.

Davis takes the turf so seriously that he lets it grow and water outside before rolling it indoors for games. The local college football team, UNLV, uses the stadium but not the Raiders’ turf and must play on artificial turf.

The athlete has compiled 32 stadium guides, one for each NFL team, to give fans important game day information. We also asked readers to weigh in on the best food, beer and tailgate options at each stadium to help football fans have an enjoyable visit.

They’ll enjoy the food at Allegiant Stadium, as it’s much better than Oakland. Fans also don’t have to worry about sitting in a portable toilet after a loss and having it tipped over by an angry mob. And they can walk to the Las Vegas Strip after the game to keep the party going.

Insider tips

The must-see game in the stadium in 2024: against Kansas City Chiefs, October 27

The last time these teams met, the Raiders defeated the Chiefs on Christmas Day at Arrowhead Stadium. The Chiefs got revenge by winning the Super Bowl at Allegiant Stadium. As always, this matchup will be a good gauge of where the Raiders stand in the AFC West.

Fan tradition you should know: “The Autumn Wind”

Before the Raiders run out of the tunnel to take the field, they turn off the lights and play a video montage with “The Autumn Wind” as the background audio. The video usually features current and former Raiders players and coaches. The Raiders are then introduced and the Al Davis Memorial Torch is lit. Regardless of who fans root for, it’s an unforgettable experience that connects the past and present.

Tashan Reed’s Favorite Thing

The open-air press box. This may sound like a small detail, but it makes a big difference when you want to get a feel for the atmosphere and emotion of the game. Those of us in the press box are working, of course, but it makes it even more fun.

Vic Tafur’s favorite thing

The “Black Hole” area in the end zone in Oakland, where raucous, costumed fans screamed throughout the game, is now gone, replaced by a nightclub lounge with leather couches, a DJ, and bottle service. I’m confident the Vegas fan experience will become more cheerful once the team starts winning. Until then, I’ll opt for the sight lines (and the short walk to the Las Vegas Strip).

The athleteStadium ranking: 7

A year ago, our Jon Machota noted that Allegiant Stadium had “the fewest number of reporters ever to attend a game there.” Why? In part because it hadn’t hosted a Super Bowl yet, which happened in February. The game went off without a hitch. Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce called the indoor turf the “best” he’d ever played on, and the NFL hinted it will bring a Super Bowl back to Las Vegas soon.

At a typical Raiders game, Allegiant Stadium is incredibly loud. The view from most seats is great and there is no shortage of quality food, drink and merchandise options.

The biggest criticism may be the price of admission. Allegiant Stadium had one of the highest average ticket prices in the NFL last season. The Raiders’ fan base remains enthusiastic, and fans of opposing teams travel from all over the country to visit Las Vegas.

Tips for fans on match day

The Athletic asked NFL fans for their feedback on the following questions:

Which seating area offers the best value for money?

This is not for the faint of heart as these are the most expensive seating tickets, but sections 112 and 134 are all you can eat and drink… and we’re talking lobster tails and premium liquor! Plus, you’ll likely rub shoulders with NFL legends, celebrities and titans of the industry. It’s all downstairs, under the seating map, and there’s a field-level patio right behind the team bench. You can watch the team managers get everything ready before the game and sometimes even interact with the players. The opposing team is on page 112 and the Raiders are on page 134. These are also tickets for the 50-yard line, so it’s not cheap, but for those with deep pockets, it’s an incredible deal! — John P.

Which food should you definitely not miss?

Hands down, it’s the smoked brisket burrito at BBQ Mexicana, located off sections 122 and 314. Unless you’re vegetarian. — Christopher F.

The Sicilian pepperoni pizza near the clubhouse is my favorite. — Joe V.

The Greek-Mediterranean kebab and rice food cart upstairs is fantastic. It’s light and filling if you want to avoid greasy food. — Al-Ali B.

What is the best beer option?

The MarioChelada. — Mario P.

Where is the best place to take a photo?

From virtually any angle, the Al Davis Memorial Torch with the window to the Strip behind it is epic! — John P.

What child-friendly activities/options are available at the stadium?

On the east side of the stadium, along the stadium’s concourse, there is a cool display with a football helmet from every high school football team in Nevada. Try to find your school! — John P.

Where is the best place for a tailgate?

Los J. — Eric G.

The pre-game parties all over the Strip are only topped by the post-game parties all over the Strip! You’ll see people in every NFL jersey. If you want to talk NFL with fans from all over the country (and the world), we’ve got you covered on the Strip! — John P.
