‘Agatha All Along’ twist ending explained

Agatha all the time ended with a dramatic two-part finale just before Halloween, and the ending cemented Kathryn Hahn’s Agatha as one of the MCU’s biggest villains.

It goes without saying, but Spoilers ahead to the final of Agatha all the time.

Witch Street is an urban legend

The finale’s biggest plot twist is that “The Witches Road” is a complete invention of Agatha’s that was accidentally made into reality by Billy (Joe Locke).

This gives the series a surprisingly dark tone, revealing that Agatha planned to murder her new coven from the start and simply played along when the path was revealed.

This explains why Agatha is so anxious and unhappy during the trials, even though she claims to have walked the road before, and why she became so angry with Billy when the road seemed like a closed circle with no end.

Agatha always seems to have a backup plan, plans within plans; Even her apparent self-sacrifice to save Billy was done with the knowledge that she would return as a ghost.

All the dead witches were murdered

The revelation that the road was a ruse all along also sheds an even more horrific light on the many deaths that occurred during the adventure – all of which were meaningless and essentially blamed on further murders by Agatha.

Alice (Ali Ahn) died young without understanding that she was betrayed. Worse, Agatha did not shy away from stealing Alice’s powers, although she was later able to do so with Billy.

Lilia (Patti LuPone) willingly sacrificed herself to save the Circle, even though it was all pointless.

In retrospect, the death of “Mrs. Hart” (Debra Jo Rupp) is easily the most tragic story in the MCU – she’s a well-meaning suburbanite who falls under Wanda’s mind-altering spell, then falls into Agatha’s trap and dies for a reason she never fully understood, with Agatha never herself cared to know her name.

This is not surprising, because we learn that over the years Agatha neglects human life and only cares about her own son. Quite refreshing for a protagonist, Agatha is a real villain who makes Loki look like a saint.

In an extended flashback, Agatha is portrayed as a serial killer in a relationship with Death (Aubrey Plaza), who uses his magical abilities to kill an extraordinary number of women over the centuries.

Agatha’s only redeeming quality is her love for her son Nicholas Scratch, whom she tries to protect from the embrace of death.

Why did Agatha kill all those witches?

This is left somewhat ambiguous, but it is implied that Agatha buys Nick time by slaughtering covens of witches as an offering to death.

Agatha and Death also appear to have reached an agreement in which Agatha provides bodies and Death extends her life. When we first see “Plaza’s Death” (first introduced as “Rio”), Agatha tells her, “You can’t kill me, it’s not allowed.”

In the finale, Death gives another clue to their arrangement by telling Agatha, “No one in history has received special treatment like you.”

After Nick inevitably dies, Agatha steps up her murderous actions and uses the song she once shared with her son to involve witches in her plan. It appears that after Nick’s death, Agatha turns to nihilism and simply desires more power and a longer lifespan.

In a bittersweet twist, this fills Agatha with a deep fear of meeting her son in the afterlife – she is too ashamed to face him after everything she has done.

Agatha is certainly one of the most interesting characters in the MCU, as she ruined her relationship with her own son due to her literal lust for death.

Funnily enough, in the comics, it’s Thanos who longs for death, and the infamous “snap” of the Infinity Gauntlet is motivated by his desire to impress her.

Who is Nicholas Scratch’s father?

While many fans speculated that Mephisto (the Devil of the Marvel Universe) was Nick’s father, it appears the boy doesn’t have a father.

Agatha is a lesbian who states that she created her son “from scratch,” so it is likely that she conjured him herself, just as Wanda did with her twins. However, Death could be considered Nick’s second mother, and she may have been involved in his conception.

Being a child of Death would also explain why Nick should be stillborn and why Death treats him kindly even when she takes him away.

Will there be a second season of Agatha All Along?

Agatha was a spin-off of WandaVisionand it looks like the story will continue in the upcoming MCU series Vision Questin which Paul Bettany will return as Vision.

Agatha all the time ends with the titular witch agreeing to prove herself as Billy’s spirit guide and help the teenager find his lost twin brother.

Billy, whose superhero name is “Wiccan,” has already demonstrated extraordinary powers, escaping death twice and summoning the path of the witch without even trying.

As Agatha said, the boy takes after his mother; Only time will tell if he uses his powers for the greater good or ends up losing control like Wanda.
