Adirondack Artist Honors Jimmy Carter – Mountain Lake PBS

As the United States’ election of our 47th President continues to be a top news story around the world, an Adirondack artist says he is proud to make a small contribution to the growing legacy of the 39th President of the United States and the First Lady to do.

President Jimmy Carter occupied the Oval Office in the late 1970s and celebrated his 100th birthday a few weeks ago. This made him the longest-living president in US history and the first to live to the age of 100. More recently, Carter made headlines for voting early in the 2024 presidential election in Georgia.

Saranac Lake artist Nip Rogers says his collaboration with the Carter Center began in 2007 when he was invited to create the cover for the organization’s annual report. He got the job thanks to his talent for editorial illustration and storytelling, as well as the contacts he made through his art rep.

President Carter and his wife Rosalynn founded the Carter Center in 1982 in collaboration with Emory University. The nonprofit organization’s mission is to advance human rights, alleviate human suffering and help improve the quality of life for people in more than 80 countries.

The three covers Rogers created for the center are all hand-drawn illustrations, digitally colored. The artist says the collaboration with Center is ongoing and that he may do more illustrations for the organization.
