Adam Boqvist of the Panthers leaves the game against the Bruins after shooting the puck in the face

The Florida Panthers announced on social media that defenseman Adam Boqvist left Tuesday’s game against the Boston Bruins and will not return.

Boqvist left the game after shooting a puck in the face following a clearance attempt by Bruins defenseman Brandon Carlo.

The 24-year-old is in his sixth NHL season after spending the early part of his career with the Chicago Blackhawks and Columbus Blue Jackets. Last season with the Blue Jackets, Boqvist recorded one goal and nine assists for 10 points in just 35 regular season games.

Selected No. 8 overall in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft, Boqvist has recorded 23 goals and 62 assists for 85 points and 40 penalty minutes in 209 career regular season games.

Before turning pro, Boqvist spent the 2018-19 season with the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League, recording 20 goals and 40 assists for 60 points in 54 regular season games. This spring, he recorded 10 goals and three assists for 13 points in just 11 playoff games.

The Panthers won their first Stanley Cup championship in franchise history last season, defeating the Edmonton Oilers in seven games in the finals. The team posted a 52-24-6 regular season record and won the Atlantic Division.

Forward Sam Reinhart led the team with 57 goals and 37 assists for 94 points. Teammate Matthew Tkachuk led the way with 62 assists, and Sergei Bobrovsky posted a record of 36-17-4 with a .915 save percentage and 2.37 goals against average.

In the postseason, both Tkachuk and captain Aleksander Barkov recorded 22 points, closely followed by forward Carter Verhaeghe with 21 points.
