A sunny and seasonal weather period in the new working week

After a gray start to Saturday, sunny spells have developed this afternoon as a slow-moving low pressure system continues to move eastward over the Great Lakes. Scattered showers have appeared in parts of western Wisconsin, but these will taper off this evening as daytime warmth decreases. A high pressure system over central Canada will move southward into the northern Plains later this evening, allowing skies to become mostly clear as north-northwest winds die down. Temperatures will cool overnight to the highs of 10 to lows of 15 degrees Celsius near our dew points. Conditions will again be favorable for fog formation, so you’ll want to be cautious if you plan to be outside early in the morning. With the high centered over Minnesota tomorrow, we’ll end the weekend on a nice note as mostly sunny skies with pleasant humidity prevail. Temperatures will be about average for this time of year, topping out at just above 27 degrees Celsius.

As we begin the new week, upper level flow will consist of an upper level trough over Eastern Canada and the Northeast, while an upper level ridge strengthens to the west of us. This will favor consecutive days of seasonal temperatures around 27 degrees. On the surface, the high pressure system will slowly move eastward across the Midwest before drifting into the Great Lakes region by Wednesday. Sunshine will be the dominant phenomenon early this week, with great weather for enjoying the outdoors as dew points are kept in check with low humidity. As we move onto the back side of the high pressure system mid-week, southerly flow will return to the region, becoming windy on Thursday. As a result, moisture will return at low levels, with noticeable humidity starting Friday and into next weekend. Clouds will mix with the sunshine as there is a front to the west of us, but the weather currently looks to remain dry. The long-range forecasts start to diverge towards the end of the forecast period, as there is uncertainty about whether the ridge will dominate our upper-level flow or whether it will become more zonal (west to east). This will affect how warm it gets; either way, temperatures should continue to stay above 27 degrees Celsius or near average.
