A spring wedding in Georgia with a pastel color palette

Altagracia Greenard, a teacher, and Jonathan Greenard, a linebacker for the Minnesota Vikings, met in college in February 2019. “Jonathan was going through one of my photos while my best friend and I were doing one of our ‘just because’ photo shoots,” Alta says. Four years later, Jonathan was at training camp in Miami (which happens to be Alta’s hometown). “I came over for the weekend to visit him and my family,” she explains. “He planned a Sunday brunch that ended in a marriage proposal with both of our families present.”

The couple knew they wanted to host their wedding at the Foxhall Resort in Douglassville, Georgia, where guests could spend the weekend. “We wanted a country feel for our modern lifestyle,” says the bride. “What we loved most was the intimacy and beautiful scenery of this resort.” She and Jonathan invited 190 guests to their April 20, 2024, wedding, which was inspired by Bridgerton; The duo envisioned a spring party filled with greenery and a pastel color palette of reds, peaches and yellows, which was also reflected in the dress code. “Jonathan and I are both very loving, fun and vibrant people and we feel that the pastel color palette that our guests took as inspiration allowed everyone to be creative, colorful and have fun,” says the bride.

They enlisted Nia from Thompson & Tulle to help them select the perfect vendor team and design all of the décor details for the big day. Their wedding was full of unique touches like customized welcome gifts, a surprise musical guest during the ceremony, and a Waffle House open late. You won’t want to miss the personal elements of their big day as captured by Glorianna Chan.

The couple’s invitations were personalized by Ernest and Wodie, who added a monogram of their initials and finished the set off with a delicate pink bow.

The invitations included a color palette recommendation for guests’ attire—physical color swatches pointed them in the right direction—and butterfly stamps provided the perfect finishing touch.

When guests arrived at Foxhall Resort for the weekend, they were greeted with canvas welcome bags. “We had University of Florida cookies in our welcome bags as a nod to the place where we met!” says Alta.

Alta shopped for her wedding dress just three months before the big day. Luckily, she found her Pronovias dress at her first bridal appointment in Houston. “Stress levels were high and I wasn’t so confident that I would find my dress that day, but with the incredible selection and the help of my wonderful friends, I said yes to the dress!” she says.

The mermaid-style dress made from Mikado featured a V-neck, a plunging back and a cathedral train. “This dress screamed timelessness and I knew I could pass it down to my daughter,” says Alta. She accessorized the ensemble with a pearl veil, Nadri earrings, Jimmy Choo shoes and an emerald-cut tennis bracelet and necklace duo.

She sprayed on the YSL Libre fragrance, which she received as a gift for her friend’s wedding. “I chose this fragrance because it smells like it should be suitable for an unforgettable event,” she says.

She held a large bouquet of coral-orange, yellow, and peach peonies that contrasted with her bridesmaids’ champagne-colored Birdy Gray dresses (they stood out from the crowd of pastel-clad guests), each of whom held a smaller version of Alta’s arrangement.

Jonathan arrived in an ivory suit with a delicate floral print by Darryl Anderson. “From a distance, it looks subtle, but up close, you can see the fine details of the flowers everywhere,” says Alta. He accessorized with clear Gucci glasses, a Rolex watch, and custom cufflinks with his initials (a gift from Alta); a peach ranunculus boutonniere completed the look. Jonathan’s fragrance for the big day was Baccarat Rouge 540 – another gift from his bride. The groomsmen wore tan slim-fit suits by Jos. A. Bank.

The couple’s ceremony took place on the venue’s lawn, surrounded by hills and greenery. A broken floral arch was set up at the altar; colorful floral arrangements in window boxes lined the petal-covered aisle.

Jonathan surprised Alta by hiring singer Peter Collins to provide all the music during the ceremony. He played Claudio’s “Frozen” for Sabrina as she walked down the aisle. “We wrote our own vows and included the story of how we met and even some Bible verses,” Alta says of her wedding.

At cocktail hour, a jazz trio entertained guests as they enjoyed bites like crab cakes, Philly cheesesteak tarts and fried green tomatoes. “We wanted to mix in some of our favorite dishes, along with dishes that would introduce people to the South, like the fried green tomatoes,” Alta says. The couple also served two signature cocktails: a strawberry margarita for Alta and a cranberry tequila soda for Jonathan.

They commissioned Ayla Kay Designs to create a custom escort presentation with floral arrangements made from window boxes—a nod to the flowers that lined the ceremony aisle. Before taking their seats, guests recorded voice messages for the couple on a blue rotary phone rather than signing a traditional guest book.

The reception brought the couple Bridgerton Vision brought to life by greenery and chandeliers hanging from the beams and flowers and candles placed around the stone fireplace. A mix of round and long tables were decorated with light blue tablecloths and low centerpieces with flower vases and taper candles. Place settings included green plates, white and green patterned napkins, gold flatware, and green water goblets with a bee on them to represent the wedding’s spring theme. The same floral arrangements from window boxes that were seen at the couple’s ceremony were placed throughout the room.

Alta and Jonathan performed “While We’re Young” by Jhene Aiko for the first time as a married couple. The DJ then switched to “Emotion” by Destiny’s Child for a parent-child dance.

For dinner, the couple served a duet main course consisting of a red snapper roulade and a chicken dish with honey Dijon sauce, along with finger potatoes stuffed with Asiago and chives and baked butternut squash.

Lush Cakery kept Alta and Jonathan’s white four-tier wedding cake simple, highlighting a white monogram in the center. They chose amaretto, white chocolate, raspberry and lemon cake flavors.

As a wedding gift, guests received personalized Waffle House mugs—a nod to the waffle and hash brown bar they served as a midnight snack—with the couple’s new shared name on it. And knowing their DJ would keep guests on the dance floor all night, the couple donned white Golden Goose sneakers personalized with their wedding date in Roman numerals and their wedding hashtag for the rest of the night.

Alta recommends that couples about to get married enjoy the planning process. “Enjoy every moment, because before you know it, the day after your wedding will be here,” she says. “Enjoy the stress, the laughter, the banter, the decision-making, the tasting of food — everything.”
