A “spooktacular” Halloween prediction for the great country

BIG COUNTRY, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – With a lot of talk about rain and possible severe weather so close to Halloween, you can expect these undesirable conditions to subside just in time to produce exceptional trick-or-treating weather.

First, a significant trough and low pressure area will descend southward as early as Wednesday morning. When we see this, it is normally expected that a possible front will be visible just east of the low pressure system. In this case, that’s what will happen, and there’s also a chance it could turn into a storm.

There is no rain in Abilene this month, exacerbating drought conditions

As a result of this synoptic lineup, the Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has already issued a Minor (1/5) and Minor (2/5) risk for some of our eastern counties for Wednesday, October 29th.

Storm threats with this system include heavy rain, strong winds and even the threat of hail. The risk of tornadoes is low, but not zero.

These storms are expected to occur late Wednesday night into Thursday. Fortunately, there will be no heating during the day, so the storm threat is unlikely to reach its true potential severity.

Because these storms moved through early, the forecast for Halloween evening will be exceptional. The front that has pushed through will drop temperatures from the 80s to the mid 70s. Additionally, winds will become calmer again and should remain calm throughout the evening.

No rain is expected on Thursday night either. A few clouds are expected, but the weather for trick-or-treaters couldn’t be better.
