A mix of rain showers and sunshine awaits Houston on Sunday

When will it rain in your area? Find out everything you need to know with our live radar.

HOUSTONCheck out our current radar below:

Here you can plan your day hour by hour:

Forecast for Sunday:

There is a chance of isolated showers and thunderstorms. The chance of rain is 30-40%, so if rain is coming, just wait until it passes.

Showers and storms are possible on the coast, with isolated showers occurring inland.
Isolated showers and thunderstorms could bring short periods of rain.

If you’re having a pool party or barbecue over Labor Day weekend, you don’t have to cancel, but I would pay attention to the radar and go indoors for 30 minutes if you hear thunderstorms. Some coastal areas could get heavy rain, which could cause flash flooding. It may not be as heavy, but it’s still there!

The probability of rain on Labor Day increases

On the trail of the tropics:

The National Hurricane Center is currently monitoring the low pressure system in the northwestern Gulf of Mexico for tropical development, but don’t sound the alarm. It’s the same low pressure system we’ve been monitoring all week that’s brought us showers and storms.

The low pressure system will continue to meander offshore as it drifts toward Louisiana. If it stays over the warm waters of the Gulf, there is a chance it will develop, but the probability is slim. A 10% chance in the next two days and only a 20% chance in the next seven days.

In the western Gulf of Mexico, the probability of development over the next week is low. (Copyright 2024 by KPRC Click2Houston – All rights reserved.)

There are also some waves in the Atlantic. The probability is 40% in the next seven days.

It is a tropical wave that has a 40% chance of developing into a system over the next seven days.

10-day forecast:

We have a daily chance of showers and thunderstorms in the 10-day forecast. These won’t be total downpours, but rather showers and thunderstorms that will be scattered here and there. That means you shouldn’t cancel your Labor Day weekend outdoor plans, but keep in mind that a few thunderstorms could move through.

Next weekend it will dry out

If you’re looking for cooler weather, we expect a gradual cooldown in September. Our average high temperature drops to 88° by the end of the month. Our average low temperature drops to 67° – thank goodness!

The hottest September we’ve ever experienced was 109° and the coolest was 45°! That’s a range of 64°! (Copyright 2024 by KPRC Click2Houston – All rights reserved.)

Although we expect our temperatures to drop seasonally, the Climate Prediction Center expects temperatures to remain above average throughout the month across most of the U.S. As a reminder, our last 100-degree day was September 27, following Hurricane Rita.

Above-normal temperatures are expected across most of the United States in September. (Copyright 2024 by KPRC Click2Houston – All rights reserved.)
