LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – After a split weekend of fall and spring-like temperatures, it’s going to feel like a season we can’t seem to put behind us just yet: summer. The 80s will return for the next few afternoons.

We expect warmer highs statewide on Monday, with the greatest differences in southeastern Nebraska. If there were no cloud cover in the morning and afternoon, it could get even warmer.

Eastern Nebraska will also be windy, with gusts between 25 and 35 mph. Southerly winds will be the fuel for our warmer temperatures, and they will be strong enough to be a nuisance.

Partly cloudy, windy and mild across most of Nebraska Monday night into early Tuesday morning. Lows will be in the 30s and 40s in northern and western Nebraska and in the 50s and 60s in central and eastern Nebraska. South wind 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph.

Then Tuesday will be a day where temperatures fluctuate between cool and hot across the state. Behind a passing cold front, highs will fall into the 50s and 60s. Ahead, low to mid 80s.

It will also be a windy day with gusts south and east of the front reaching 40 to 50 mph. A windy advisory has been issued for southeastern Nebraska from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

A fire weather warning has been issued due to dry and windy conditions expected for Tuesday. Parts of eastern and southeastern Nebraska may experience critical fire conditions Tuesday.

Summer’s brief return ends Wednesday with highs in the lower 60s and then upper 50s for Halloween! This front will be the trigger for showers and storms late Tuesday evening and into Wednesday morning. There are further chances of rain next weekend.
