Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton warns Bexar and Harris County in letter about plans for voter registration form

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is warning Bexar and Harris county commissioners about their plans to send voter registration forms to people he calls “unverified recipients.”

Commissioners in Bexar and Harris counties are considering using taxpayer money to pay third-party vendors to mail voter registration forms to unregistered voters in their counties.

Paxton said county commissioners would send out the forms without verifying whether individuals were eligible to vote.

Paxton explained that the voter registration forms would inevitably go to people who are not proven to be eligible to vote, such as felons and illegal immigrants, and could “encourage” them to register to vote, which is a crime.

Paxton said he would sue if Bexar and Harris counties implement their plans.

“It is more important than ever that we maintain the integrity of our voter rolls and ensure that only eligible voters determine our elections. Your proposal does the opposite by indiscriminately requiring county residents to register to vote regardless of their eligibility. I urge you to abandon this proposal. If you don’t, we will see you in court,” Paxton said.
