DRIER DAYS ARE COMING AGAIN THIS WEEK – WSVN 7News | Miami News, Weather, Sports

Happy Tuesday, South Florida!

Hope everyone had a great weekend. Since late last week, South Florida has been stuck in a “wash and repeat” pattern with a higher daily chance of rain. And over the holiday weekend, South Florida dealt with occasional downpours and some thunderstorms at times. This morning, South Florida saw some showers and thunderstorms moving from south to north. And as they cleared the area, it looked like it was starting all over again. Many places in South Florida woke up to lightning and thunder!

Scattered showers and a few thunderstorms are also forecast today as there will still be enough moisture across the region to produce rain. At times our east to southeast winds will be a little stronger. So it will be windy and very humid at times with the occasional shower or thunderstorm in the early afternoon. After rain cooled temperatures to above 21 degrees this morning, our afternoon highs will drop to above 35 degrees today. Showers and thunderstorms should clear by mid to late afternoon as most of the activity moves inland.

Looking ahead, there are some changes in the weather forecast for South Florida. A thin layer of Saharan dust will reach South Florida mid-week and that should help lower the chance of rain. A few isolated showers will still be possible. Then it looks like the tropical moisture will move out of the region and let drier air in by the end of the week. This will bring the chance of rain and thunderstorms down to isolated or scattered by the end of the week! The best news is that this slightly drier air could even stick around into the beginning of the weekend. After the humid and stormy conditions the last two weekends, South Florida will be happy to have a break from the rain.

Taking a quick look at the tropics, we are currently monitoring two different areas for possible developments. A tropical wave in the eastern Caribbean is attempting to organize, but conditions are not favorable for development. This is the area we have been monitoring since early last week! However, by the end of this week or this weekend, it could develop into a tropical depression as it moves into the western Caribbean and near the Yucatan Peninsula. Another tropical wave in the far eastern tropical Atlantic is producing showers and gusty winds near the Cape Verde Islands. This wave will move into conditions favorable for development and a tropical depression could form over the next few days as it moves W/NW. Neither system poses a threat to South Florida.

I wish you a wonderful day!
