Polish tennis player Iga Świątek on her inspiration from the “positive” message of “Ted Lasso”

Polish tennis player Iga Świątek, who has just qualified for the quarterfinals of the US Open in the women’s singles with her victory against Liudmila Samsonova, is following Ted Lasso‘s playbook.

The No. 1-ranked player, who is a known fan of the show, said she carries the feeling of “positivity” from the Emmy-winning Apple TV+ comedy with her when she plays on the court. In attendance at the match was the show’s co-creator, star, writer and executive producer Jason Sudeikis.

“It is a completely different sport because (in Ted Lasso) It’s about team spirit,” she said in a new interview after the game. “Here I am also a little bit with my team, but of course we are alone on the pitch.”

The professional player admitted that she tried to focus on the court despite knowing that Sudeikis was watching, but given her victory, it didn’t seem to distract too much from her game.

“I’ve actually been trying not to look at the screens, but tonight I saw him,” she said, laughing. “I wanted to stay focused and I hope he appreciates my attitude, because that’s what Ted Lasso But I hope he likes it and that he’s not working on a new (season) or anything.”

After her victory, Świątek celebrated her win on social media, writing simply “QF @usopen” and posting a GIF of the good-natured football coach punching his trademark yellow “Believe” sign.

Although she was hoping for a break, Sudeikis could return to work sooner or later. As Deadline exclusively reported last month, Ted Lasso took a big step forward with the release of the fourth season, as the cast members Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein and Jeremy Swift were optioned by the series’ studio, Warner Bros. Television.
