Coach service connects Wilmington and Philly airports

American Airlines, in partnership with The Landline Company, is launching a new service that will transport passengers by luxury coach from Wilmington Airport to Philadelphia International Airport.

Beginning October 7, premium coach service will allow passengers to combine the convenience of not having to drive to Philadelphia Airport with the benefits of flying on American Airlines’ worldwide network. Passengers will park at Wilmington Airport, check their luggage to their final destination and clear TSA security at ILG before boarding the coach to PHL. During the nonstop journey to Philadelphia, passengers will enjoy first-class amenities before arriving at PHL’s Terminal F after security. The schedule is coordinated to connect with major American Airlines flights with six daily round-trip flights.

Travelers flying into Philadelphia and connecting to Wilmington can board the coach in the security area without exiting the security area. Checked baggage is automatically loaded onto the coach and passengers will collect their baggage upon arrival at Wilmington Airport.

“With American Airlines/Landline service, passengers can travel with peace of mind knowing their connections are protected with American Airlines. Traveling with Landline eliminates the hassle of finding a rideshare or driving and parking at PHL,” said Hannah Tamura, Landline spokeswoman. “The ability to go through TSA security at ILG instead of waiting in unpredictable security lines at PHL is an added benefit.”

“We are very pleased to add American Airlines’ landline connection service to ILG’s offerings,” said Thomas J. Cook, executive director of the Delaware River & Bay Authority. “At Wilmington Airport – ILG, we pride ourselves on providing our customers with a fast, affordable, seamless and convenient hometown airport experience. For those looking for quality service without the hassles of a big city airport such as parking, check-in or security screening, I encourage them to try American Airlines’ new service at ILG.”

Each Landline coach is handicap accessible and features 35 premium leather seats in a 2×1 configuration that offer extra legroom, free Wi-Fi, in-seat power outlets and an onboard restroom. Travelers also receive itinerary protection and earn AAdvantage miles when traveling with American.

Here are the highlights:

  • American Airlines launches new tarmac-to-tarmac luxury coach service to its Philadelphia hub
  • The new service allows passengers to clear security at Wilmington Airport, board a luxury coach at Wilmington departure gates, and arrive at a secure gate in Philadelphia’s Terminal F. Customers then disembark at the gate and proceed to their next gate to continue their connecting flight.
  • The luxury coaches feature 35 premium leather seats in a two-to-one seating configuration and offer a seat pitch of 36 inches, comparable to the premium cabin of a regional jet. Passengers can also enjoy free Wi-Fi and power outlets at every seat.
  • Customers can earn and redeem AAdvantage miles with these new fixed-line connecting flights
  • Baggage is handled like any other flight: passengers check their bags in with American Airlines staff upon arrival at Wilmington Airport, and from there the airport’s baggage handling system takes over. Check-in also works like any other American Airlines flight.
  • American will launch the service with six round-trip flights per day, timed to coincide with American flights from Philadelphia.
  • To use the service, customers book their flight through the American Airlines website or mobile app by entering Wilmington Airport as the departure airport and selecting the destination as the end point, just like a flight schedule.

Customers who wish to book the seamless connection to and from PHL can book the coach at the same time as their flight on aa.com by searching for Wilmington (ILG) as their first or final destination.
