Rebecca Ferguson joins film adaptation of ‘The Magic Faraway Tree’ – Film News | Film-News.co.uk

Rebecca Ferguson was cast in the role of the “Magic Faraway Tree”.

The 40-year-old “Dune” actress has signed on to play the fearsome headmistress Dame Snap in Palisades Park Pictures’ upcoming film adaptation of Enid Blyton’s children’s book series, which will be directed by “Britannia” director Ben Gregor.

In a statement, the director said: “Rebecca has a commanding screen presence, is one of the finest actresses of her generation and will be an electrifying addition to our film.”

The actress will star in the film, which is currently being shot at Shinfield Studios in the UK, alongside the likes of Andrew Garfield, Claire Foy, Jennifer Saunders, Pippa Bennett-Warner, Nicola Coughlan and Nonso Anozie.

Ferguson is best known for her role as secret agent Ilsa Faust alongside Tom Cruise in the “Mission: Impossible” series, but she left the series after her character was killed off in “Dead Reckoning” last year.

The actress explained that she felt it was the right time for her to leave the franchise because she believes Faust is developing into a “team player.”

During an appearance on the podcast “UnWrapped,” she said: “To be clear – because I know a lot of people are sad about this, I’m sad about this – I had made three movies. My deal was done.”

“And I love her beyond measure. Beyond measure. I think she’s the greatest, most fantastic character.”

“Ilsa developed into a team player. And we can all want different things, but for me Ilsa was a villain. Ilsa was naughty. Ilsa was unpredictable. A lot of characters came into play that didn’t leave enough room for what she once was.”

Ferguson added that she did not want to commit to making any more Mission: Impossible films due to the lengthy production process that comes with the action series.

She said: “Selfishly, that’s a lot of time to make a ‘Mission’ movie. And if you don’t want to spend a lot of time on screen, that’s a lot of time sitting around waiting to make a huge movie that could take over a year to shoot. That takes dedication.”
