Although the story takes place in Boston, Massachusetts, most of the film’s scenes were shot in New Jersey. (We told you, folks on the East Coast would be happy.) Specifically, the cast and crew set up shop in New Jersey locations like Hoboken and Jersey City, but also filmed in other areas of the state, including Weehawken, Chatham, Harding, Newark, Parsippany-Troy Hills, and Plainfield.

These areas were apparently chosen for a specific reason. According to My Central JerseySteven Gorelick (Executive Director of the New Jersey Motion Picture and Television Commission) said the director of the film wanted a certain look for the film.

“I suspect the director and production designer were looking for a Dutch Colonial style house, as the house they chose is a beautiful example of that,” said Gorelick. The house he is referring to is the childhood home of Blake Lively’s character Lily Bloom.

Were there any scenes from It ends with us shot in Boston?

However, scenes of the Boston skyline are seen throughout the film (which makes sense since that’s where the story takes place). To film these scenes, the crew headed to the Longfellow Bridge and the Leonard P. Zakim Bunker Hill Memorial Bridge to shoot these iconic drop-offs.
