Egyptian Foreign Minister talks to Indonesian counterpart on the phone to discuss economic issues and the Gaza crisis

CAIRO – August 29, 2024: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptian Expats Badr Abdelatty spoke by phone with his Indonesian counterpart Retno Marsudi on Thursday and expressed his desire to hold a joint meeting of the Ministerial Committee soon to strengthen relations.

In this context, Minister Abdelatty praised the trade volume between the two countries, which exceeded one billion dollars, and said he looks forward to expanding this milestone by increasing Indonesian investments in Egypt. Likewise, both sides expressed their interest in increasing the mutual flow of tourists, especially given that direct flights between Cairo and Jakarta will be introduced in 2023.

In view of Indonesia’s G20 membership, the Egyptian minister addressed the need to reform the global financial system and global governance in response to geopolitical crises and sustainable development priorities.

At another level, the regional impact of the Gaza war, the consequences of Israeli violations in the West Bank and the provocations related to the Al-Aqsa Mosque and Jerusalem were also discussed during the phone call. In this context, the two ministers agreed to coordinate efforts to achieve a ceasefire within the framework of the work of the Arab-Islamic Ministerial Committee formed to resolve the Gaza crisis.
