Brooke Shield reveals her daughter Grier wore her ‘first wedding dress’ as a graduation gown; details inside

Grier Henchy, 18, decided to graduate high school in 2024 in her mother Brooke Shields’ first wedding dress. The dress was customized to Grier’s style and Shields first wore it in 1997 at her wedding to tennis pro Andre Agassi. The dress’s original puffy details were removed and replaced with a strapless model.

The final appearance was praised by 59-year-old Shields: “She looked great in it.” Grier, who recently enrolled at Wake Forest University along with her 21-year-old sister Rowan, felt honored by her daughter’s decision and appreciated the effort.

PEOPLE magazine reported this week that Brooke Shields and her children Rowan and Grier shared details about their personal lives. Rowan and Grier’s father is Shields’ second husband, Chris Henchy. During the interview, Shields talked about her children’s freedom to explore their wardrobe.

Shields, who is currently adjusting to the empty nest, explained that she allows her children to wear anything in her closet. She explained that she believes no article of clothing should be off-limits as she sees this as a way to breathe new life into her clothes. Shields explained that she finds it rewarding to see her children wear these pieces rather than letting them sit around unused.

According to Brooke Shields, she doesn’t choose her wardrobe based on antiques or valuable auctions. Instead, she gets great satisfaction from seeing her clothes worn and cherished by her descendants. Shields clarified that she finds this practice keeps the memories associated with her clothing relevant and alive.

She cited the dress she wore to her wedding to ex-husband Andre Agassi, whom she split from in 1999, as a notable example. Shields spoke about how important it was to her that her daughters chose to wear her signature pieces, seeing it as a way to pay tribute to the past and preserve the memories associated with these unique dresses.

Shields’ daughter Rowan made headlines in 2021 when she decided to attend her high school prom in one of her mother’s famous dresses. Shields first wore the Richard Tyler-designed gown to the Golden Globes in 1998. Rowan described how she discovered the dress while going through her mother’s old wardrobe in New York.

She was initially looking for clothes for a TikTok video when she came across the red dress. Rowan remembered that she was looking for a ball gown but didn’t want to spend too much time searching. She thought maybe they could use something from her mom’s collection.

After spotting the red dress, Rowan decided to try it on and found that it only needed a few adjustments to fit her properly. Although she did have to adjust the dress slightly around the chest, she was happy with the end result and decided to pair it with a Hollywood wave hairstyle.

Although Brooke Shields was happy with the result, she pointed out that it might not have been as well received if she had suggested wearing the red dress herself. She was glad that Rowan had found and chosen the dress herself.

Shields recalled a previous incident involving her red dress and her agency telling her it could negatively impact her acting career. Shields bravely wore the dress despite her reservations and eventually, red carpet appearances at the Golden Globes became the norm.
