Brooke Shields’ daughter Grier Henchy paid tribute to her mother by choosing a special piece from her wardrobe for her high school graduation.

The 59-year-old actress brought back a memory from her past when she gave Grier her 1997 wedding dress to wear on her graduation day. Shields originally wore the ivory satin gown when she married her now ex-husband Andre Agassi. The two were married from 1997 to 1999.

And even though Shields had previously pushed the dress into the back of her closet, thinking she would never need it again, it was rediscovered by her daughter.

In conversation with People For a cover story, Grier detailed how they reworked the original silhouette.

“We had to re-strengthen it a little bit to make it tight and smooth,” the 18-year-old told the outlet. “We took out anything poofy because I didn’t want it to be baggy. And we made it strapless.”

The young academic, who attends Wake Forest University, paired the elegant dress with pointed-toe pumps, a Van Cleef necklace and round earrings.

Although Shields and Agassi split years ago, the movie star still thinks highly of him and their big day together. “He’s a good guy, so for me it was really like a big full-circle moment and it honors something and I think that’s healthy,” she said.

Shields, a proud mother, complimented the magazine on her daughter’s appearance and gushed about her grown daughter. “She looked great in it,” she noted.

“It’s such an honor when they want to wear your stuff. They don’t usually think I’m cool,” Shields admitted.

When asked about the extent to which her two daughters, Grier and Rowan, have access to her closet, Shields replied, “Honestly, they can wear anything, just so it has a second life – you pick things up and wonder why.”

“It’s like a big Sotheby’s auction? I highly doubt it. Unless they’re iconic items. If they then have a second life, it feels good,” she added.

Still, Rowan has already worn one of her mother’s “iconic” pieces. In 2021, her eldest daughter pulled out her red 1998 Richard Tyler dress as a ballgown. Shields had previously worn the custom-made garment to the Golden Globes.

Shields shares Grier and Rowan, 21, with her current husband Chris Henchy. The couple married in 2001 and dated for two years before that. Shields and Henchy met the same year she and Agassi confirmed their separation.

The Endless love The actress broke down online on August 26 after dropping Grier off at college. On Instagram, she cried about being an “empty nester” with two children in school. “My two baby birds have left the nest,” she exclaimed.

“I sat here a year ago and watched my big daughter leave, and now I’m back on this porch and now my kids are officially out of the house,” Shields continued. “At least they’re together. It’s not easy. It’s not easy for the moms. I mean, it’s just so weird. It’s so weird that (Grier) isn’t here.”
