One of the most iconic horror films of all time arrives just in time for the Halloween season. The Exorcist is due to be released by Max on September 1st.

The horror classic is based on the novel of the same name by William Peter Blatty, who also wrote the screenplay for the film. It was directed by the late William Friedkin. The Exorcist revolves around the demonic possession of 12-year-old Regan MacNeil. Chris MacNeil initially believes that her daughter only has a health problem and takes her for medical examinations, which, however, find nothing physically wrong with her. In a last-ditch attempt to save her daughter, the mother seeks out two Catholic priests to perform an exorcism and defeat the demon before it’s too late.

Everyone knows how iconic The Exorcist is, from its disturbing plots to the image of a completely possessed Regan. Although it’s a great demonic horror film, it’s ultimately a hopeful story, while The Omen is a grim look at what happens when evil takes over. But which film do you think is better?

For many one of the scariest films of all time. The Exorcist is a towering giant of the horror genre. It spawned several sequels and numerous imitators, although many believe it is still the benchmark when it comes to exorcism films. Much of the film has seeped into pop culture, such as Reagan’s sickening 360-degree head turn, which is still considered one of the most iconic moments in film history, or the line “The power of Christ compels you,” which spawned countless parodies. The Exorcist will forever go down in horror film history, and rightly so. The exorcist is revived

When Blumhouse acquired the rights, The Exorcistthey had big plans for the future of the franchise. The original goal was to make a trilogy, starting with The Exorcist: FaithDirector: David Gordon Green. Fresh from the successful resurrection of Michael Myers in the Halloween Reboot trilogy, Green seemed ready to become the new go-to guy for popular horror IPs. The reaction to The Exorcist: Believer was not exactly stellar. The film received mixed reviews at best and was not the box office hit that Blumhouse had hoped for. This led to a major change in direction for the franchise, with Green no longer involved.

The planned trilogy has now been abandoned in order to hire horror writer Mike Flanagan to direct a fresh, new version of the film. The Exorcist. Flanagan is known for excellent horror shows such as The Haunting of Hill House And Midnight Massand the horror films Doctor Sleep And silenceThe film is still in the early stages of production but is scheduled to hit theaters on March 13, 2026.

The Exorcist will be available to stream on Max on September 1st.
