APPLETON — Dozens of customers in communities across the Fox Valley are without power as a powerful storm passed through the region late Tuesday morning.

Shortly after 11 a.m., the National Weather Service in Green Bay reported a strong to severe storm front moving into the Fox Valley. The main dangers are damaging winds of 50-60 miles per hour, lightning and heavy rain that reduces visibility.

As of 1 p.m., We Energies reported that more than 100 customers were still without power. (Outage map)

Around noon, the Appleton Fire Department reported being called to several downed trees and power lines throughout the city of Appleton, urging residents to allow extra time for their commutes and to stay in their homes if possible.

The winds became so strong that the Wisconsin Department of Transportation’s Northeast Region office in Green Bay issued a wind advisory for the Leo Frigo Memorial Bridge (I-43) in Green Bay at 1:15 p.m.

Vehicles on the bridge at the time were asked to slow down to 72 km/h. Drivers of high-profile vehicles (semi-trailers, RVs, tall trailers) were warned to avoid the bridge altogether.

The warning has now been lifted.

In Kaukauna, electricians worked throughout the day to restore power after a tree fell on a main power line around 1:15 p.m., leaving more than 100 homes without power.
