Everything you need to know before you start trading on August 27

The Asian indices showed mixed numbers in early trading: Japan’s Nikkei was 0.1 percent lower, Australia’s S&P ASX 200 unchanged and South Korea’s Kospi was 0.3 percent lower (as of 6:36 a.m.).

Investors will be closely monitoring macro data from key regions due this week, including inflation data from Singapore and Japan due on Friday, and the Bank of Korea’s interest rate decision due on Thursday.

Buoyed by expected interest rate cuts by the U.S. Federal Reserve, U.S. stock traders pushed down prices of technology mega-caps just days before Nvidia Corp.’s earnings report was released.

Most S&P 500 stocks posted gains as Wall Street continued its trend of pulling money out of big technology stocks. On Monday, the S&P 500 closed at 5,616.84 after falling 0.32%, and the Nasdaq Composite fell 0.85% to close at 17,725.77. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.16% to close at 41,240.52.

Brent crude oil was trading 0.25 percent lower at $81.23 a barrel at 6:27 a.m., while gold fell 0.18 percent to $2,513.4 an ounce.

GIFT Nifty was trading 0.1% lower at 25,011.50 at 6:30 am.

The NSE Nifty 50 posted its longest winning streak in over a year, closing 16 sessions above the psychologically important 25,000 mark on Monday, and the S&P BSE Sensex extended gains for the fifth straight session. The rally came after dovish comments from US Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell at the Jackson Hole symposium, confirming a September interest rate cut in the US.

The Nifty closed 187.45 points, or 0.76 percent, higher at 25,010.60 and the Sensex was 611.90 points, or 0.75 percent, higher at 81,698.11. Both indices closed at their highest since August 1.

Foreign investors remained net buyers of Indian securities for the third consecutive session on Monday. Foreign portfolio investors bought shares worth Rs 483.4 million, while domestic investors remained net buyers in the 16th session too, buying shares worth Rs 1,870.2 million, provisional data from the National Stock Exchange showed.

The Indian currency closed unchanged at 83.90 against the US dollar.
