Reports: Titans trade QB Malik Willis to the Packers

According to several reports, the Tennessee Titans are trading quarterback Malik Willis to the Green Bay Packers.

In return, the Packers are sending a seventh-round pick to Tennessee, according to ESPN and NFL Network. Willis is expected to play in Green Bay behind starter Jordan Love alongside second-year pro Sean Clifford.

It’s not immediately clear what the roster will look like or which backup quarterbacks the Packers will keep on their 53-man roster when the regular season begins. Seventh-round rookie Michael Pratt (Tulane) is also on the preseason roster.

The Titans selected Willis in the third round of the 2022 draft as a backup to Ryan Tannehill and a potential quarterback of the future. He appeared in eight games as a rookie, including three starts when Tannehill was injured.

The Titans then signed Will Levis in 2023 and inserted him as the starter midseason to replace the injured Tannehill. The Titans did not re-sign Tannehill after his contract expired, and he remains a free agent with the regular season upon us. Levis is the starter in Tennessee, and the Titans signed Mason Rudolph in the offseason, making Willis expendable.

Willis is an athletic quarterback with the potential to make game-winning plays with his legs, but his limited opportunities with the Titans have not always allowed him to showcase his full quarterback arsenal. In 11 appearances, including three starts at Tennessee, Willis completed 53% of his passes for 5.3 yards per attempt, with no touchdowns and three interceptions. He posted 144 rushing yards and one touchdown on 4.5 yards per carry.

He now gets a second chance to earn a backup role behind Love, one of the league’s most promising young quarterbacks.
