Federico Chiesa: Liverpool considering move for Juventus and Italy winger

Liverpool are considering a move for Italian winger Federico Chiesa from Juventus.

The 26-year-old attacker was deemed surplus to requirements by Juve coach Thiago Motta, who took over as manager of the Serie A team at the beginning of the summer.

Chiesa, who was part of the Italian squad for Euro 2024, reportedly has one year left to run on his contract.

He was not in the squad for Motta’s first league game as coach against Como and was also absent on Monday when Juventus played against Hellas Verona.

Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes said earlier this summer that the club would be “opportunistic where possible” when signing new players.

During the process, the Reds have expressed preliminary interest in a number of players and it is believed that interest in Chiesa has not progressed beyond that yet.

Liverpool are close to a deal with Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, but have not yet made any new signings this summer under new coach Arne Slot.

They tried to sign Spanish midfielder Martin Zubimendi, but he decided to stay at Real Sociedad.

Chiesa moved from Fiorentina to Juventus in 2020 for a transfer fee of up to £54 million.

He has played 131 times for the club and was part of the Italian team that won the 2020 European Championship, but form and injuries have limited his appearances in recent seasons.
