Smartphones have been around for decades, but many have a similar form factor. While brands like Google, Samsung, OnePlus, and a few others have tapped into the foldable market, none have officially dispensed with buttons. Button-less smartphones might sound like a wild dream, but they’re not. Especially if you’re on the Xiaomi team, as the company is reportedly working on a button-less phone for end users.

Xiaomi is reportedly planning to launch a button-less flagship smartphone sometime in 2025.

When we talk about a button-less phone, how could we forget the Vivo Apex 2029 Concept? The prototype phone used capacitive buttons or pressure-sensitive sensors and linear motors to emulate the physical buttons. Since it was a button-less concept phone, it never made it to the market, but that’s not the case with Xiaomi.

Today, the folks at Smartprix got a tip from a popular Vietnamese leaker, Chun Bhai (@chunvn8888 on X). The Xiaomi flagship push-button phone, codenamed Zhuque, will neither feature a physical power button nor volume rockers.

According to the report, the alleged buttonless phone is in the early stages of development. And it might take some time for Xiaomi to bring it to market. An exact launch date is not mentioned. However, the report claims that it could launch sometime in 2025.

Since the device is still in early development, there is no mention of how it might be controlled. There is speculation that Xiaomi’s buttonless phone might use various gesture controls, pressure-sensitive sensors, or even voice commands.

The alleged buttonless phone could have the upcoming Snapdragon 8+ Gen 4 SoC (codenamed SM8775) under the hood. Notably, the same chip could power the upcoming Xiaomi 15S Pro, which is expected to launch in the first half of 2025.

Also, there is no information about the camera, battery or display of the alleged buttonless phone. Also, there are rumors that Xiaomi is working on a triple-folding smartphone that could launch early next year. All in all, if Xiaomi manages to launch this “buttonless” phone next year, it would not be a surprise to see major brands enter the race to make such a phone.
