Reliable phone with cool design

A few weeks ago, Honor’s new premium mid-range phone series Honor 200 hit Indian stores.

It is available in two variants – Honor 200 and 200 Pro – with prices starting at 34,999.

Design, workmanship and display

The Honor 200 boasts a slim profile and a premium marble-like smooth wave pattern on the back. There is a visually appealing oval camera module in the top left corner. It looks like a pendant and is the most beautiful camera capsule I have seen on a phone this year. Unlike other conventional phones, the Honor 200’s camera does not protrude far and fits easily in your pocket.

The railing around the display is made of chrome and harmonizes wonderfully with the pearl white color of the back. Our test device is in Moonlight White.

The company also offers the device in black. It also looks nice.

On the front, there is a beautiful 6.7-inch 1.5K (2664×1200 pixels) 120Hz OLED curved display. It is good for consuming multimedia content on OTT platforms. Even outdoors, the display offers a good viewing experience. It supports peak brightness of up to 4,000 nits. I never had to squint to read messages or news articles on the screen.

The stereo speakers are excellent. Even at maximum volume, there is no distortion. The audio output remains stable at all times.

It also has an in-display fingerprint sensor. This works smoothly and without any problems as long as the finger is dry and clean.

The device also features a USB Type-C port for charging and data transfer, as well as dual SIM slots (type: Nano).

Performance

The new device is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 (2.63GHz Cortex-A715 x 1 core + 2.4GHz Cortex-A715 x 4 cores + 1.8GHz Cortex-A510 x 3 cores) octa-core processor with Adreno 720 GPU, 8GB/12GB RAM, 256GB/512GB storage.

The device runs smoothly and there are no significant issues. Even when gaming, the Honor 200 remains stable without overheating.

It runs on Android 14 based MagicOS 8.0. It has a distinctly user-friendly interface as compared to other Android phones. It is really easy to navigate through the phone’s settings. Also, it has an AI-enabled feature that learns the user behavior like which apps he/she uses the most and recommends those apps (the top 4) on the home screen during that particular period.

The Honor 200 series is guaranteed to receive three Android operating system updates (2027) and four years of software security support until 2028.

Honor 200 has a massive 5,200mAh battery. During the testing period, the device consistently delivered over a day of battery life under normal usage, which includes an average of one hour of video streaming and normal everyday activities such as scrolling through news feeds on social media platforms, taking calls, replying to messages, and a round of gaming.

Thanks to 100W SuperCharge support, it can go from zero to 50 percent in less than 15 minutes and reach 100 percent in 40 minutes.

It is equipped with a triple camera module – 50MP main camera (with 1/1.56-inch Sony IMX906 sensor, f/1.95, OIS: Optical Image Stabilization) + 12MP 112-degree ultra-wide-angle camera (with f/2.2, 1-inch macro option) + 50MP 2.5x portrait telephoto camera (with Sony IMX856 sensor, OIS, f/2.4) with LED flash on the rear.

You can get really good pictures in daylight. The colors of the subject, especially the flowers, appear strong and vibrant in the photos.

Even in poor lighting conditions in the evening, brilliant images are achieved.

When taking close-up photos, the phone captures every tiny detail with colors that are almost true to the original.

In portrait mode, the Honor 200 shines with a perfect bokeh blur effect in the background.

The Honor 200 takes good photos at night. It manages to balance the light from street lamps and other light sources and makes the photo more appealing.

On the front, there is a 50 MP camera (with Sony IMX906 sensor f/2.1) that allows you to take brilliant selfies in any lighting conditions. It also has a ton of editing tools to further enhance the beauty of your face.

Both the main and front cameras support 4K video recording. The video quality is decent and comparable to competing brands in its class.

Final thoughts

The Honor 200 is a feature-rich premium mid-range phone. The back has a cool marble-like smooth finish. Also, the device has a reliable Qualcomm chipset for smooth performance and a large battery that ensures it lasts a full day with normal usage.

As far as photography goes, it takes really good pictures in almost all lighting conditions.
