UNMPD and APD investigate shooting near American Legion, victim appeared at UNMH

On August 25, 2024, at 4:10 a.m., UNMPD officers were dispatched to UNMH to report a male victim (not a student, staff member, or faculty member) with a gunshot wound to the leg. The male victim refused to provide any information on how or where the wound occurred.

UNMPD officials located a possible shooting location at 1201 Legion RD NE, near the American Legion 13 base. This is off campus but close to UNM grounds. APD is investigating the incident.

A few weeks ago, nearly ten shots were fired and American Legion personnel reported the incident. APD and UNMPD responded to the incident and found no suspects.

If you have any information regarding this incident or notice any suspicious behavior, please contact the UNM Police Department (UNMPD) at 505-277-2241. Reports can also be made in person 24 hours a day to UNMPD, located on the main campus at the west end of Hokona Hall (2500 Campus Blvd NE).
