A phone call and then an attack: How Israel killed Hezbollah military commander Faud Shukr

Before Hezbollah’s military commander Faud Shukr was killed in an Israeli strike last month, he received a phone call that prompted him to move to a more vulnerable position inside the building where he was hiding, a recent report said.

Shukr, who had been in hiding since his involvement in the hijacking of TWA Flight 847 from Athens to the United States in 1985, was killed in the July 30 attack along with his wife, two other women and two children.

A report by Wall Street Journal said that shortly before his murder, Shukr received a phone call instructing him to go to the seventh floor of his building where he lived. Before that, he was on the second floor where his office was. He had lived in the same building for years.

After he moved, the Israel Defense Forces attacked the building and killed him. He was so elusive that one of his neighbors in the WSJ They reportedly said they had never seen him and that he was “like a ghost.”

The report also said that Hezbollah and Iran are investigating the security breach.

Israel’s advanced technological capabilities are reported to be superior to Iran’s anti-surveillance efforts.

Shukr has been involved in numerous attacks around the world, including a key role in a cross-border raid that killed eight Israeli soldiers in 2006 and sparked the war with Lebanon.

In addition, he is considered a key player in increasing Hezbollah’s missile arsenal from 15,000 to 150,000.

He was also wanted in the United States for his role in the bombing of a US Marine barracks in Beirut in 1983. The attack killed 241 US soldiers.

In 1985, after Hezbollah was formally founded, Shukr became its military commander. Since then, he has rarely been seen in public.

Only at the beginning of the year he made a brief public appearance at the funeral of his nephew, who had died in the fight against Israel.
