Film director discusses chances of release of sequel to “Longlegs 2”

After the great success of Long-leggedDirector Osgood Perkins talked about the chances of the horror film getting a sequel.

Long-legged In “The 40 Fingers,” Maika Monroe plays the role of FBI agent Lee Harker, whose job it is to hunt down a Satan-worshipping serial killer played by an unrecognizable Nicolas Cage.

Upon its release, the film quickly became one of the scariest of the year and became the highest-grossing indie horror film in North America (according to Variety). With such success, it is no wonder that many more Long-legged.

Director of “Longlegs” talks about prospects for the release of a sequel

Osgood Perkins first spoke about whether he would Long-legged sequel before the film’s release. The director told Dexerto he wanted to wait and see “How is it (the film) doing at the box office?” before committing:

“Let’s see how it does at the box office. It all depends on that. I think once you’ve settled on something that seems to be working and people like it, there’s naturally a nagging impulse to think, ‘We could probably do that again and expand it a bit.'”

Long-legged is now a box office success, but Perkins added that he is not necessarily interested in a sequel, as it “There is something wonderful about leaving things alone”:

“There’s something wonderful about leaving things as they are, isn’t there? That’s harder, isn’t it? Isn’t it harder to leave something as it is than to try to do it again?”

The end of Long-legged certainly brought things to a close when Lee killed her mother to put an end to Longleg’s rampage. That resolution is one of the reasons Perkins told Collider he was hesitant to make a sequel.

The director said he had thought about what would happen next for Lee Harker, but her story was “complete:”

“I’ve talked about it a little bit. I feel like it’s complete for her. Where she has to go at the end, her final act with her mother is the worst thing you can do, right? Matricide, let’s say, is probably the worst form of it – that’s the worst moment, right? You can’t say, ‘Oh, well, something else was worse than that.’ So I think the fact that the devil takes it to this point where she has to do that, the devil is like, (wipes his hands clean).”

In a separate interview with Den of Geek, Perkins added “I think the ending for (Lee) is as bad as it could have been.”and suggests that he can’t imagine many darker places for the character’s future.

However, at the end of the film, one thread remains open, namely the doll of Agent Carter’s daughter Ruby.

As previously established, the dolls were Longlegs’ method of allowing the devil to enter homes and possess family members. At the end of the film, however, Lee and Ruby escape, leaving their doll unharmed.

This has raised the question of whether this could be picked up in a sequel, but Perkins said: “not my problem” before adding, “It’s under control. It’s over. It’s over.”

Where could a sequel to “Longlegs” go?

While some narrative strands of Long-legged Although The 40 Years of the 40 Years could form the basis for a possible sequel, Perkins seems quite content to leave the film as a standalone film, particularly when it comes to the character Lee, whose character development came to a satisfying conclusion.

In addition, Cage’s eponymous serial killer was active during the events of Long-leggedwhich makes a sequel with the same characters unlikely.

However, there is a certain connective tissue between Long-legged and Perkins’ other film The Blackcloak’s Daughterwhich both deal with the dark forces of the devil and which could suggest that the director’s films share a common universe.

In fact, one of Perkins’ next projects, goalkeeperis about a couple who take a short vacation in a remote cabin where they are taken in by a “eerie presence”. Although it is too early to say whether this supernatural presence is also connected to the devil, if so, it could contribute to Perkins’ shared universe theory.

This means that a Long-legged A sequel is still possible, but perhaps not in the form that audiences expect.

Long-legged is available for purchase or rent on digital platforms.
