3 HUGE overreactions after the surprise loss to Georgia Tech

DJ Uiagalelei wasn’t the reason FSU lost the game. He completed 19 of 27 passes for 193 passing yards. He had seven rushing yards and was sacked just once. He didn’t play poorly, didn’t lose the ball, and seemed hampered by the plays. FSU never seemed to adjust to the adjustments Georgia Tech made after the first scoring drive early in the game. Georgia Tech started the game more downhill to limit FSU’s running game. They blitzed more and FSU never tried to make them pay for it until it was too late in the game.

DJ Uiagalelei made some big throws towards the end of FSU’s final scoring drive. Why didn’t we see more of that earlier in the game? It was his first real game on offense, and it could be that Mike Norvell doesn’t trust him or the receivers to take those chances. Eventually, though, they had to make a change because they weren’t able to run the ball effectively after the first drive. Mike Norvell alluded to some of his mistakes in the postgame press conference. This offense has a lot of potential, but the coaching staff needs to put players in position to make explosive plays. The short passes to the running backs won’t be as effective because defenders are already coming downhill or near the line of scrimmage to block the run.
