Man hospitalized after hit-and-run crash near Pagosa Springs – The Durango Herald

The person was riding a motorcycle when the incident occurred on US Highway 160 on Friday evening

According to the Colorado State Patrol, a motorcyclist was hospitalized Friday evening after being struck by a vehicle on U.S. Highway 160, about 10 miles west of Pagosa Springs.

CSP was dispatched to the crash site at mile marker 133 around 7 p.m. Friday.

“The car fled and the motorcyclist stayed,” said police officer Dan Selph, who investigated the hit-and-run accident on Friday.

The motorcyclist, whose identity could not be established, suffered minor injuries in the accident, according to Selph.

“Everything that happened is still under investigation; I am still gathering information,” he said.

Selph said the man ended up in the eastbound lane of U.S. 160 after the crash as other motorists helped him and his motorcycle into a nearby parking lot. However, it is not yet known whether the crash happened in the eastbound or westbound lane, he added.

The man was taken to hospital in stable condition, said CSP Sgt. Dillon Guinn.

“As far as I know, he was treated at the hospital,” Guinn said, adding that it was not yet known whether the man had been released or was still in the hospital.

Selph said the CSP is still searching for the suspected hit-and-run driver and that the agency is currently only working with a general description of the car.

“We have not received enough eyewitness reports to narrow the lead to a specific vehicle,” he said, adding that CSP is working with the Archuleta County Sheriff’s Office in the investigation.

Selph said at least one eyewitness told authorities he heard the impact, turned around and saw the motorcyclist “still in the air.” He also said the car fled the scene of the crash to the east.

Anyone with information about the accident or the suspected hit-and-run driver can call the CSP dispatch center in Montrose at 249-4392 or the Archuleta County Sheriff’s Office at 264-8430.
