Mrs. Dorothy Mae “Dot” Beasley Brannock, 88, of Mount Airy, died early Saturday morning, August 24, 2024, at Sovah Hospital in Martinsville, VA. Mrs. Brannock was born December 19, 1935 in Surry County, the daughter of the late Arthur and Maggie Lawson Beasley. Dot retired after 37 years of service with Centel Telephone Company. She was a valued member of the First Baptist Church of Mount Airy, where she faithfully served youth for 50 years. In addition, Dot was a member of the Mount Airy Fire Department Ladies’ Auxiliary and the VFW Ladies’ Auxiliary. She leaves behind a daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Jeff Brinkley; a son and daughter-in-law, Benny and Gina Brannock; her grandchildren, Samuel and Emily Brannock, Maggie Brinkley Nicholson and Mike Anderson, Sarah and Asa Bennett, Mary Kate and Lucas Brewer, and Joseph and Jessi Brannock; a step-granddaughter and her husband, Mary Alice and Kyle Leonard; her great-grandchildren, Addilyn Nicholson, Brayden Nicholson, Walker Brewer, Yadkin Brewer, Emmy Brannock, Sophia Brannock, Daphne Brannock, Boone Brannock, Benton Brannock, Fraya Brannock, Weslyn Brannock, and Dottie Brannock; her great-grandchildren, Avery Leonard, Owen Leonard, Maysen Leonard, and Teddy Leonard; two sisters-in-law, Elsie Beasley and Glenda Beasley; a brother-in-law, Ed Brannock; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Brannock was preceded in death by her parents her husband, Ben Brannock, two sisters and a brother-in-law, Ruby and Jim Pruitt and Annabell Hodges; and four brothers and two sisters-in-law, Claude Beasley, Clarence and Juanita Beasley, Paul and Vernell Beasley, and Marvin Beasley. A service to worship and honor Dot’s life will be held on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Mount Airy with the Reverends Jay Meadows and Kevin Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends on Monday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy where her body will remain until it is brought to the church for laying in state 30 minutes prior to the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, 714 North Main Street, Mount Airy, NC 27030; Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, PO Box 325, Dobson, NC 27017; or a charity of the donor’s choice.
