Yale women sign YMCA national champion Devyn Sargent for 2024-25

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is a proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment updates. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that they pursue with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who have supported them along the way.

Devyn Sargent from Malvern, Pennsylvania, will begin her college career at Yale University this fall in the class of 2028. At the time of her acceptance, she wrote on social media:

β€œYale Swimming and Diving ’28!! πŸ’™ Thanks to my coaches, parents, teammates and friends for all their support. GO BULLDOGS! πŸΆπŸ’™β€

Sargent swam for the Academy of Notre Dame de Namur and the Upper Main Line YMCA club team. A backstroke specialist, she was named to the “Best of the Rest” section in our re-evaluation of the top high school recruits of 2024.

Sargent is an impressively versatile swimmer who swam breaststroke and medley in high school and placed 2nd in the 100 breaststroke (1:02.10) and 200 individual medley (2:01.82) at the 2024 Eastern Interscholastic Swimming Championships. Both times were personal bests, as was her 100 freestyle lead-off time (50.86) from the 400 freestyle relay. A month later, at the YMCA Short Course National Championships, she improved her 200-meter individual medley time to 2:00.71 and posted personal bests in the 200-meter freestyle (1:49.57), 50-meter backstroke (24.69), 100-meter backstroke (53.20) and 200-meter backstroke (1:54.63). She won the national title in the 200-meter backstroke, placed second in the 100-meter backstroke, placed third in the 200-meter individual medley and placed fifth in the 100-meter breaststroke.

This summer at the YMCA Long Course Nationals, she won the 50 backstroke and 100 backstroke, placed second in the 200 backstroke, and placed fourth in the 50 breaststroke and 100 breaststroke.

Sargent will have a major impact on the Yale roster if she competes for the Bulldogs this fall. She would have been Yale’s fastest backstroker last season, would have swum alongside Quinn Murphy in the “A” final of the 100 backstroke at the 2024 Ivy League Women’s Championships, and would have easily qualified in the top 8 in the 200 backstroke. Her time in the 50 backstroke would have beaten Yale’s performance in the individual medley at the Ivies by a full second. Her best times would also have earned her the “B” finals in the 100 breaststroke, 200 freestyle, and 200 individual medley.

Best SCY times:

  • 50 back – 24,69
  • 100 back – 53.20
  • 200 m backstroke – 1:54.63
  • 100 Breaststroke – 1:02.10
  • 200 Breaststroke – 2:17.80
  • 100 free – 50.86
  • 200 m freestyle – 1:49.57
  • 200 medley – 2:00.71

Sargent will join Yale’s graduating class of 2028 along with Eunice Lee, Lily Neumann, and Mabel Koff.
