Bodies of tech tycoon and daughter found in separate cabins on doomed Bayesian superyacht

The body of British tech tycoon Mike Lynch was found alongside the remains of four of his guests in the first cabin of the doomed Bayes superyacht – while his teenage daughter apparently died alone in another cabin, authorities said.

The $40 million ship sank stern first on Monday and rolled onto its right side as it slid into the waves – causing passengers trapped on board to seek refuge in the air holes on the left side of the ship.

The cause of the incident is currently being investigated, Italian authorities confirmed on Saturday, but it is believed that the ship was probably hit by a drainpipe.

Divers found Lynch’s body in the first hut on Thursday, said Bentivoglio Fiandra, chief of the Palermo fire department and part of the diver rescue team, according to the BBC.

The bodies of New York lawyer Christopher Morvillo and his wife Neda, as well as Morgan Stanley manager Jonathan Bloomer and his wife Judy, were also found in the first cabin.

Hannah Lynch, 18, was the last victim to be recovered from the wreckage. Her body was recovered on Friday.

The remains of Lynch’s daughter Hannah were found alone in the third cabin on the left, Fiandra explained.

The clever student was supposed to study English at Oxford University, one of her former teachers told reporters.

Lynch’s wife and Hannah’s mother, Angela Bacares, was one of 15 passengers and crew who escaped from the Bayesian.

The body of the ship’s cook, Ricardo Thomas, was pulled from the water shortly after the sinking.

The investigation aims to clarify how a ship that was classified as “unsinkable” by its manufacturer, the Italian Sea Group, could sink while a nearby sailboat survived the unusual weather event largely unscathed.

Giovanni Costantino, CEO of the Italian Sea Group, blamed the tragedy on “indescribable, unreasonable” errors by the crew.

“The impossible happened on this boat… but it sank because it took on water. Where it came from, the investigators will say,” he told Reuters.

In an interview with the Financial Times, Costantino claimed that the Bayesian sank within 16 minutes – which should have been enough time for the crew to safely evacuate everyone.

Lynch had organized the doomed cruise to celebrate his recent acquittal of fraud charges in the United States.
