Mike Flanagan wants to make his film “The Exorcist” the “scariest film I’ve ever made”

One can say without a doubt The Exorcist is one of the scariest films of all time and set a new standard for horror films when it was released in 1973, and many still consider it to be one 50 years later. Now horror filmmaker Mike Flanagan will create “a radically new version” of The ExorcistHe wants it to be “the scariest movie I’ve ever made.”

Flanagan has made a name for himself in the horror genre in his relatively short career. He first became known in 2013 with OculusSince then he has been a writer, showrunner and director Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass And The Fall of the House of Usher Series for Netflix as well as several adaptations of Stephen King’s novels such as Doctor Sleep And Gerald’s game.

At the Fan Expo Canada Convention in Toronto, he and Kate Siegel spoke about Haunting of Hill House as well as other projects in their careers (we will learn more about this panel later) and Flanagan was asked about the announcement that he would be joining a new The Exorcist.

“The original The Exorcist is a defining film for me,” said Flanagan. “I have only once in my career felt like I was stepping into the shadow of a monolith, and that was with Doctor Sleep. I feel sick every day because of The Exorcist in a really entertaining way, but the thing about The Exorcist is that when it came out, it was the scariest movie ever made at the time. Modern audiences don’t necessarily connect with the movie in the same way, so my mission is to make it the scariest movie I’ve ever made. If I can do that, I hope it resonates with people. There’s so much to do, I can say that.”

What do you think of Flanagan’s passion and ambition? Are you curious about his perspective on The Exorcist or think that after last year’s The Exorcist: Believer flopped? Let us know on our social channels at @flickeringmyth…
