Netflix has been working on Lonely Planeta new romantic drama set in Morocco. Filming ended over a year and a half ago, and after a long post-production period, we learned Lonely Planet is scheduled to land in October 2024. Here’s everything we know so far.

Netflix first officially unveiled the project in April 2022. Susannah Grant works as a director and author. Erin Brockovich Screenplay was nominated for an Oscar. Her other works include Unbelievable, The 5th Wave, 28 Days, and more.

Grant is also producing alongside Sarah Timberman and Liza Chasin for 3dot Productions, with Studio Film VP Kira Goldberg providing creative direction for Netflix. The film continues the innovative partnership between Netflix and 3dot, which has previously produced the streamer’s upcoming thriller series. Anatomy of a scandal. 3dot signed a multi-year first-look film deal with Netflix in 2019, with adaptations of Taylor Jenkins Reid’s bestseller The Seven Men of Evelyn Hugo.

What is the plot of Lonely Planet?

Lonely Planet is initially touted as a love story set in Morocco; more plot details will be revealed over time.

Here is the full logline for the upcoming film:

“A reclusive novelist arrives at a prestigious writers’ retreat in Morocco, hoping that the secluded surroundings will solve her writer’s block. There she meets a young man – what begins as an acquaintance develops into an intoxicating, life-changing love affair.”

Who is in Lonely Planet?

Cast for Netflix’s Lonely Planet

The main actors of Netflix’ Lonely Planet are Oscar winners Laura Dern (Marriage story, Jurassic Park) And Liam Hemsworth (The Hunger Games). Dern recently reprised her role as Ellie Sattler in Jurassic World Domination and was producer of the Hulu miniseries Small beautiful things. Hemsworth was recently cast as Geralt of Rivia, replacing Henry Cavill in the fourth season of The Sorcerer.

In May 2022, Deadline announced that Diana Silvers And Younes Boucif had joined the cast. Silvers is probably best known for her recent appearance in the now-defunct Netflix comedy series Space Force. Boucif was most recently the headliner of the French Netflix original comedy series Stand up.

What is the production status of Lonely Planet?

Filming of Lonely Planet, which is currently awaiting release, began in mid-2022 in several locations. Cameras began rolling on May 9, 2022, and finally wrapped a month later. According to a local report from Morocco on local productions, Netflix invested 190 million dirhams in the project, which equates to a budget of about 50 million dollars.

Filming continued throughout the first few months of 2023, with the Daily Mail reporting that production had begun in Los Angeles (via BackGrid Photos – see below). The duo were spotted kissing on set at a restaurant in Acton, and additional beach scenes were shot on Malibu Beach, where production had imported camels to create the illusion that filming was taking place in Morocco.

What is the Netflix release date of Lonely Planet?

Netflix has announced the release date for Lonely Planet Not yet, but we’ve heard from sources that the film will be released worldwide on Netflix on Friday, October 11, 2024.
