Brian Kelley: His new song “Make America Great Again” is censored

Country music artist Brian Kelley released a single titled “Make America Great Again” on streaming platforms in July following his performance at the 2024 Republican National Convention, which took place less than a week after the assassination attempt on Republican presidential candidate and former President Trump.

Since the song’s release, Kelley has watched the censorship by major technology companies with great interest and is convinced that there is no reason for the lack of viewership.

“I thought it was kind of weird,” Kelley told Fox News Digital about the missing “Share” button on the Apple Music streaming service.

The Floridian native said he tagged Apple Music in his social media posts and within a day or two, the issue was resolved.

“Maybe it was a mistake. Maybe it was something else, but it shouldn’t be that hard to just use the same tools I’ve used on other songs,” Kelley said.

When his band members’ wives asked Amazon Alexa to “play Brian Kelley,” Kelley said the cloud-based voice service played Brian McKnight instead.

“I love Brian McKnight,” Kelley said. “He’s great, but it’s these things that are really, really interesting and make you think and wonder.”

Regarding Instagram, Kelley said that the positive comments in support of the song were blocked out.

“I never really had that problem,” Kelley said.

The “See You Next Summer” singer said he received numerous comments from fans telling him they could not share “Make America Great Again” on their platforms.

Elon Musk criticizes Google for omitting search suggestions about Trump assassination

Instagram did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.

“Ultimately, this is nothing new,” Kelley said. “It’s somewhat to be expected at this point when it comes to censorship by the big tech companies.”

Kelley criticized Google for the search engine giant’s lack of autocomplete results related to the assassination attempt on Trump in late July. At the time, Google denied to FOX Business that it had manually manipulated the results.

“We just have to be louder and not give in,” Kelley said. “We have to keep spreading our message. We have to keep fighting. We can’t be afraid to speak our minds and stand up for what we believe in and stand up for our truth.”

Regarding Spotify, Kelley said his song did not appear on the playlists dedicated to the week’s new releases.

“They’re not going to advertise it,” Kelley said of Spotify. “They’re not going to make it public.”

However, Kelley acknowledged that Spotify has been “good” to him, promoting new music including “Acres,” “Kiss My Boots” and “Dirt Road Date Night,” all of which were included in playlists.

A source close to Spotify told Fox News Digital that the song was “not censored.” To be censored, it would have violated the rules and been removed from the platform entirely.

“Even if it’s not on a playlist, and even if it’s not on one that the artist would have liked, that doesn’t mean it’s censored,” the source said. “Anyone can find the song at any time.”

Spotify declined to comment when asked by Fox News Digital.

While Kelley is reassured, he expressed gratitude to Trump for posting the music on both Truth Social and Instagram.

“Right before he posted on Truth Social, he sent a text message through my production manager,” Kelley said. “It was a really, really sweet message. It was amazing. It felt amazing. It felt unreal.”

Kelley added that he had heard through Trump’s circle of friends and associates that the Republican presidential candidate was constantly “trumpeting it.”

The country music veteran thanked other musicians like Jason Aldean, Kid Rock and John Rich for paving the way for other artists to not apologize for music that is “a little bit political.”

“Seeing Jason really speaking his mind, loving this country, loving our military,” Kelley said. “Those guys helped make it easier for some of us to go in.”
