I-25 near Pueblo reopened after nighttime accident involving military vehicle from Fort Carson

PUEBLO WEST, Colo. (KRDO) — Southbound I-25 near Pueblo was reopened at 10 a.m. Friday morning after a vehicle struck a military Humvee overnight.

According to the Colorado State Patrol (CSP), the call came in around 4:06 a.m.

CSP said later Friday morning that a military convoy was observed traveling south in the right lane, with a Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) bringing up the rear pulling a trailer with flashing lights and a banner on the back that read “Convoy Ahead.” Four soldiers were inside the vehicle.

According to CSP, crash investigators “suspect” that a Ford Expedition struck the JLTV’s trailer while traveling faster than the 75 mph speed limit. The JLTV and trailer overturned and came to rest on their roofs in the median. The Expedition came to rest on its wheels in the median.

According to CSP, the four soldiers got out of the JLTV and provided assistance to the three expedition members. The soldiers were then taken to the hospital as a precaution. The three expedition members all suffered serious injuries and were taken to nearby hospitals.

Fort Carson said the soldiers involved were members of the 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team.

CSP has only identified the driver of the Expedition as a 29-year-old man from Denver. He is being investigated for impairment.
