Kamala Harris gives a rare glimpse of her floral wedding dress in an intimate wedding photo

This week marks a milestone in Kamala Harris’ personal and professional life. The US Vice President accepted the Democratic nomination for President, becoming the first black woman to do so, and celebrated her tenth wedding anniversary with Doug Emhoff.

The Second Gentleman recently took to Instagram to share an intimate photo from their big day, featuring Kamala’s stunning wedding dress. Dressed in champagne-colored lace and with a long veil in her curly hair, Kamala shared her first kiss with her new husband, who embraced her passionately.

“Ohh. That was our wedding kiss almost 10 years ago. Our ten-year anniversary is coming up and considering where we were 10 years ago and where we are today, it’s really unbelievable. But that’s how we still feel about each other. Despite everything that’s going on right now,” he said in a video on Instagram, before joking, “But she’s really famous now.”

The bride and groom stood against the backdrop of a large mural and orange roses that decorated the interior of the Santa Barbara Courthouse.

Another snap shows the pair walking hand in hand down the aisle, showing off Kamala’s draped wedding dress, which features off-the-shoulder straps, an embellished bodice, delicate floral details and a silky skirt with tulle overlay.

Not many pictures were released from the big day on August 22, 2014, but reports say the wedding was performed by Kamala’s sister Maya.

Doug had proposed to her just months earlier in March 2014. Kamala recalled the emotional moment: “When I looked up, he was on his knees. He had hatched an elaborate plan to propose to me in front of the Ponte Vecchio in Florence. But when he had the ring, it burned like a hole in his pocket. He couldn’t keep it a secret.

“I looked at him there on one knee and burst into tears. Mind you, these were not graceful Hollywood tears streaming down a glossy cheek. No, I’m talking snorting and grunting while mascara smeared across my face.

“Doug grabbed my hand and I held my breath and smiled back. Then he asked me if I would marry him and I screamed a tearful ‘Yes!'”

The couple got engaged in March 2014

Doug was previously married to American film producer Kerstin Emhoff, but the former couple divorced after 16 years and two children. When Doug married Kamala, they created a supportive blended family. Kerstin told CNN: “She is loving, caring, fiercely protective and always there. I love our blended family and am grateful to have her as part of it.”

In October 2023, Kamala celebrated the wedding of his son Cole to Greenley Littlejohn in Los Angeles. She took the opportunity to share a sweet insight into her marriage to Doug, telling People, “It meant so much for so many reasons.”

“It was so wonderful that the children asked me to do this. For us, marriage is not just a thing between two people, but a coming together of families. And in that spirit, we all participated.”

She added: “I love my husband. I love our marriage. I want them (Cole and Greenley) to have a loving marriage where they are best friends and know that they are not just fighting the world, but that our family supports them. That the community of people that came together at the wedding supports (them).”
