Tech loses to South Alabama in home opener

RUSTON, La. – The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs fell to South Alabama in their first home game at Robert Mack Caruthers Field. Tech conceded two goals in the first half against South Alabama and ultimately lost 2-0 on Thursday night.

Tech fired eight shots in total, with three shots being blocked by South Alabama goalkeeper Allison Luckhardt. South Alabama forced Tech to attack, firing ten shots, with two of them being blocked by the Tech goalkeeper. Cadence Rutledge. The Jaguars scored two goals in the first half, the first in the 5th minute of play when April Lantaigne fired a ball into the upper right corner off an assist from Irene Campo. The second goal for South Alabama came in the 31st minute, from Irene Campo, off an assist from Monique Gray, when Campo fired a ball into the lower right corner of the goal.

First semester Maeva Costenaro assisted two shots for Tech, one in the 5th minute and the second in the 9th minute. Defender Madita had a chance to put Tech on goal with a header in the 14th minute, but hit the crossbar. In the 73rd minute, midfielder Valley Faingezicht nearly saved a shot by the South Alabama goalie that could have put Tech up, but the shot was blocked.

“We just have to be ruthless and balanced in our attacks in front of the goal and have situational awareness and cleverness in defending our attacks and shots,” said Voltz.

Goalkeeper Rutledge was able to save two shots in her second start for the Bulldogs.

“We were careless in our chances near the goal. We didn’t dominate the game and South Alabama simply took advantage of their opportunities,” Voltz said.
