Although he was not on the program, NBA star and Olympic gold medalist Stephen Curry appeared on the big screens at the Democratic National Convention on Thursday night to express his support for Kamala Harris’ campaign.

Greeted by thousands of people who crowded into the United Center for the convention’s closing night, Curry said his heightened sense of patriotism during the recent Olympics made him realize that “Kamala Harris as president will bring that unity back.”

Curry, who plays for the Golden State Warriors and expressed his support for Harris last month, concluded by saying, “The Oval Office would suit her well. In the words of Michelle Obama, do something. Vote.”

Earlier this week, Curry’s Warriors coach Steve Kerr also took the DNC stage to support Harris.

Harris, who visited Curry and the U.S. team at their pre-Olympic training camp in July, has built a friendly relationship with the Warriors star over the years, based largely on their close ties to San Francisco and shared political views.

Curry spoke very positively about his relationship with Harris at a press conference before the US team’s first group game at the Paris Games.

“She represents the Bay Area,” Curry said. “She’s always been very supportive of us, and I want to give that energy back to her. We’re here representing our country, and the next few months are huge in the direction we’re going. Hopefully this is a great way to do our part to continue to unite our country by bringing a lot of people together through sports.”

“For her, it’s all about positive energy and optimism at this moment, knowing what lies ahead and how divided our country is right now. (I’m) just excited about the journey ahead of her.”
