Author of the Naruto live-action film announces positive update

At the end of February 2024, it was announced that Destin Daniel Cretton, the director of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Ringswill be the live-action adaptation of Naruto. Tasha Huo, the original screenwriter of the upcoming Shonen Jump Adaptation, has now revealed the current status of the film and what to expect from the Marvel filmmaker.




In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Huo confirmed the script for the live-action Naruto The film is finished and Cretton is now “doing his thing” with the story. “I think that’s such a cool choice because he can capture how nuanced and special Naruto is not to get distracted by the big world that it is, which I think could easily be done by someone who isn’t a fan or who is just looking for a big win,” Huo said. “This is definitely a film that comes from a love of Naruto, this character and his relationships.”

Masashi Kishimoto, the author and artist of Narutoalso spoke very positively about Cretton when he was announced as the live-action director of the series. “When I heard about Destin’s involvement, it was right after I saw one of his blockbuster action films, and I thought he would be the perfect director for Narutosaid Kishimoto. “After enjoying his other films and realizing that his strength lies in creating solid dramas about people, I was convinced that there was no other director for (Naruto). When I actually met Destin, I also found him to be an open-minded director who was happy to accept my input and who firmly believed that we could work together in the production process.”


While Cretton has made films like Short term 12 And Only gracethe 2021 version of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings made him a household name. The film, starring Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, received 91% positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes and grossed over $432 million worldwide, becoming the ninth highest-grossing film of 2021; an impressive feat considering the film was released during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Although Cretton was confirmed to be involved in a Shang Chi sequel in December 2021, an official release date for the film has not yet been set. Given the turbulent situation of Marvel Studios and Disney in recent years, some fans fear that the sequel is currently in danger of being canceled. However, Liu recently confirmed that Shang Chi 2 is still in development. “A lot of it is above my pay grade, but it’s definitely happening,” Liu said. “I’m really excited to work on it and it’s going to be great. That’s all I can really say.”

The Naruto Live-action adaptation currently has no release window. In the meantime, the Naruto Anime series and Boruto: Naruto Next Generations can be streamed on Crunchyroll and Hulu. Boruto: Two Blue Vortexes is currently being published in English by Viz Media and the Manga Plus app.
