HELENA, Montana – The Carroll women’s soccer team made a statement in its opening game of the 2024 season, defeating Lethbridge, Canada, 6-0 on Wednesday night at Nelson Stadium.

The Fighting Saints (1-0) left nothing to chance in their official season opener, scoring six goals in a dominant 0-0 victory over the Pronghorns.

Delaney Moczan (Las Vegas, Nev. / SO), a second-team All-CCC player as a freshman, gave Carroll the first goal of the season in the 12th minute, but it was far from over for the day. Moczan fired a total of seven shots, four on goal, to lead the Saints to the win.

Deanna Lord (Cave Creek, Ariz. / JR) doubled Carroll’s lead in the 22nd minute, scoring her first goal of the year on an assist from Emily Funseth (Great Falls, Mont. / GR).

In the 39th minute, Funseth scored her second point of the day, firing a penalty into the bottom left corner of the net. Her goal gave the Saints a 3-0 lead at halftime.

The second half proved to be just as successful for the Fighting Saints as the first. Moczan scored the second goal of her brace in the 70th minute with an assist from midfielder Zoie Koci (Boise, Idaho / GA).

Helena native and captain Jamyee Sheridan (Helena, Mont. / SR) also scored a brace in the narrow victory. Her two goals in the final 20 minutes came on a header in the box after a beautiful cross from Ella Künzli (Colorado Springs, Colorado / JR), which gave Carroll the 6-0 victory.

In total, the Saints had 27 shots on goal in this victory.

goalkeeper Maria Ackermann (Billings, Mont. / SO) was solid in goal, even if she didn’t have much to offer. The First Team All-CCC selection stopped a total of five shots in her clean sheet.

Carroll will leave for Indiana tomorrow to prepare for a two-game tour of the Midwest against (RV) Taylor and Indiana Tech this weekend.
