Brad Arthur: Leeds Rhinos coach signs new contract until 2025

Brad Arthur has signed a contract that will keep him at Leeds Rhinos for next season.

The former Parramatta Eels head coach was appointed on July 10 until the end of the season following the departure of Rohan Smith.

Since 50-year-old Arthur took over, Leeds have won two of their six games, although one of those was a 30-4 victory over world champions Wigan Warriors.

Arthur joined the Rhinos after being sacked by the Eels in May, despite leading them to the 2022 NRL Grand Final, the culmination of his ten seasons as coach.

Rhinos sporting director Ian Blease said on the club’s website, external: “In a short space of time he has already had a huge impact on our group of players and coaches and that will continue in the coming months.

“His commitment to our club was undeniable. He came here immediately after the original contract to start the club was signed, leaving his family at home.

“Of course, it is a big decision for any family to stay longer. We are delighted that Brad will be here in 2025 and, as he has already proven, I am sure we will continue to plan for the future when the time is right.”

Arthur said: “I said I would only stay if I felt I could make a difference. It’s a big decision to move to the other side of the world, especially for my family.”

“I think an initial one-year deal works well for all parties, but I’m sure we’ll talk further over the next 12 months and make the right decision for all of us about the future after that.”
