Wes Moore criticizes Trump’s “bone spurs” and lack of military service – Washington Examiner

Governor Wes Moore (D-MD) used his speech at the Democratic National Convention Wednesday night to highlight his own and Governor Tim Walz’s (D-MN) military service and to criticize former President Donald Trump for his lack of military service.

“I joined the Army when I was 17. I was actually too young to sign the papers. I had to ask my mom to sign the papers for me because I don’t have bone spurs,” Moore said.

Moore was apparently referring to allegations that Trump claimed he had bone spurs to delay his draft into the Vietnam War.

Later in his speech, Moore referred to Walz as his “comrade veteran, my brother, and the next Vice President of the United States.”

“Tim knows that in the military, you count the days until a mission is completed. And you know what? We have 75 days and a wake-up call until Election Day. 75 days and a wake-up call so we can prove what Americans can do when they’re under pressure – 75 days and a wake-up call so we can show that true patriots don’t moan and complain. We’re going to get down to business.”

Moore is widely considered a rising star of the party and came into the spotlight after the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed after it collided with a cargo ship in March.

Moore mentioned the incident right at the beginning of his speech, saying that one of the first phones he received after the disaster that killed six people was Vice President Kamala Harris’s phone.

Speculation that Moore could launch a presidential bid in the future continues to haunt the Maryland governor. However, Moore told the Washington Examiner in an interview earlier this year that he had no plans for a higher office at this time.

“It’s something I don’t even begin to think about because I really feel like I’m living a dream right now,” Moore said.

Nevertheless, Moore was one of the names discussed as a possible vice presidential candidate for Vice President Kamala Harris before she ultimately chose Walz.

As Moore’s profile grew, particularly during his run for governor in 2022, he faced criticism that he had spread the false narrative that he grew up in Baltimore.

Moore was born in Takoma Park, Maryland, and spent part of his childhood in the Bronx. But Moore rejected the criticism at the time, saying in a statement to a local media outlet that he “does not believe I have misled the public in any way.”
