Tufts warns community members after pellet gun attacks near campus – Boston News, Weather, Sports

MEDFORD, MASS. (WHDH) – Tufts University Police issued an alert Tuesday after several incidents of possible pellet gun shootings were reported near the Tufts campus.

Although no incidents occurred on the Tufts University campus itself, university police are aware of reports from the Medford, Somerville and Brookline areas in which people reported being approached by a dark-colored vehicle while walking and being struck by an unknown object.

According to police, the vehicle may be an older model Jeep. The unknown object appeared to come from the vehicle and was described as a BB pellet, according to police.

“Tufts University Police, along with our law enforcement partners, are actively investigating these incidents and encourage you to report any information that may be helpful,” police said.

While the investigation continues, police urged members of the campus community to remain alert while walking and, if possible, to stay in well-lit, busy areas with a colleague or friend.

According to the police, anyone who believes they are being followed should go to an area where other people are present.

“Don’t be afraid to call for help,” police said.

Anyone with information about the recent incidents near Tufts is asked to contact Tufts University investigators at 617-627-3030 or 617-627-6911.
