Here’s a selection of the biggest movie sequels of 2025 to add to your watchlist…

It can be difficult to decide what to watch each week, but a list like this can help you plan ahead. We’ve compiled seven movies to watch in 2025 and added a sequel to that list.

There are already a few movies set to hit theaters in 2025, so let’s focus on the sequels to some of the most popular films. From comedies to horror movies, here’s a rundown of the sequels you should definitely see in 2025. Check out our list and let us know what you’re most excited about…

28 years later

We asked for it, and Danny Boyle finally delivers a successor to the legendary 28 days later.

Can the filmmaker still make horror films? Is the zombie trend over? Or is the Boyle & Alex Garland combo too strong for that? So many questions need to be answered with this long-awaited film.

With an all-star cast that includes Cillian Murphy, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodie Comer and Ralph Fiennes, the film seems almost too prestigious to fail. With horror films in great demand right now, Boyle can make his mark on this generation, just as he did with the original.

John Wick presents: Ballerina

How can we John Wick Movie without Wick himself? Ana de Armas will try it, as she is directing this spin-off.

Ballerina comes from Underworld filmmaker Len Wiseman and could bring back exactly the ’00s action edge that the genre is now lacking. However, we’ve already seen one John Wick Spin-off failed.

Ana de Armas plays a woman out for revenge, takes on the lead role and finally becomes an action star. She stole the show in No time to die and with the right script and the absolutely perfect choreography that the franchise is known for, it could easily succeed.

M3GAN2.0

The killer robot doll captured our hearts with her cheesy slasher movie in 2023 and is back with a major upgrade.

A M3GAN Sequel was inevitable, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be good, if not better than the first entry. Take what worked in the beginning and apply it M3GAN2.0 with clear focus only leads to better kills and thrills.

At the very least, the sequel has to find a way to be as big a pop culture moment as the first one. Somehow, the doll took over social media and caught the eye of audiences long before its release. If it ups the ante, M3GAN could be on par with its counterpart Chucky.

Karate Kid

Another Karate Kid comes after Cobra Kai ends on Netflix and it could be the event the franchise has been waiting for.

The film will not have the quality of a crossover cinema event like Finalthe new Karate Kid turns out to be not only a love letter to the franchise, but also a parody of what came before.

Jackie Chan returns, as does Ralph Macchio, so expect plenty of nostalgia with a dash of new-gen flair. It could pay off and give longtime fans of the action-comedy franchise something to feast on, or it could unfortunately feel like cheap bait to get as many “Memba berries” as possible.

Mortal Kombat 2

We are witnessing another round of bloody battles of Mortal Kombatand the sequel seems to up the ante in every way.

Karl Urban joins in as fan favorite Johnny Cage and brings a group of newcomers with him. Not only is the full roster of fighters finally in place, but it looks like we’re getting a little tournament as well.

The year 2021 Mortal Kombat The film wasn’t terrible, but it left a lot to be desired. By giving fans more blood, more fights, and even more faithful adaptations of their favorite characters, the rare sequel could surpass the original. Now they just need a lot less Cole Young.

Captain America: Brave New World

Before the stunning new trailer, this spot could have benefited another installment in the franchise, but a stunning trailer added extra excitement to the film.

A fourth installment was on no one’s wishlist since Chris Evans left his role, but Anthony Mackie has proven he’s more than ready with his Disney+ series. Let’s hope it lives up to the hype.

Now he’s donning the shield to fight the Red Hulk and whatever else Kevin Feige cooks up for this newly crowned hero. While it’ll be hard to fill the void left in our hearts by Evans’ Steve Rogers, Sam Wilson could kick some serious ass, just like we know Captain America does.

Avatar: Fire and Ashes

James Cameron shocked us all with a Avatar The sequel made a lot of money and convinced the skeptics. Now he plans to do it again.

The second film succeeded in taking us from the jungle to the sea, and now we’re off to fire-filled islands for what could be the best film yet. As someone who was one of those hesitant fans, there’s no denying that Cameron is drawing audiences to the theaters.

Can he make another billion or two billion dollar film with Avatar: Fire and Ashes? Audiences’ hunger for real spectacles suggests that Cameron will be a box office smash again. We need a great gimmick and a really great trailer to get everyone back on board.
