Marshall Bennett jumps on tow truck, spits on nurse after driving without a license – Scoop: Nashville

Marshall Bennett, 43, was caught driving the wrong way on a one-way street on 20th Avenue South without a license on August 14. Officers stopped a vehicle and identified Bennett as the driver. They determined that Bennett was driving without a license. Bennett demanded that his car be relocated, so officers called a towing company. When West Nashville Towing arrived, Bennett became rowdy. Bennett then jumped on the tow truck to prevent his vehicle from being towed. Officers ordered Bennett to get off the tow truck. Despite this, he repeated the action when the towing company again attempted to tow his vehicle. He also demanded to speak to a supervisor. Bennett refused to get off the tow truck when the officer’s supervisor arrived. Officers then removed him from the vehicle and detained him. When officers attempted to arrest Bennett, he resisted arrest while being searched and handcuffed. Bennett was later charged with resisting prosecution, disorderly conduct, and driving without a license.

Several hours later, on August 15, Bennett was observed attacking a nurse while in custody at Nashville General Hospital on Albion Street by spitting in her face. When additional officers arrived on the scene, they spoke with Bobby Thames. She told police that Bennett turned his head and spit on her while she was trying to put an IV in him. Officers then spoke with witnesses who corroborated Thames’ account. Bennett was taken into custody and charged with resisting arrest, disturbing the peace, driving without a license, and two counts of assault on a nurse on August 18.
